Blue'aina Reef Cleanups

Blue'aina's objective is to cleanup and maintain Maui's reefs, educate the community, and raise money for non-profits. Trilogy & The Surfrider Foundation are committed to cleaning 12 reefs in 12 months. Did you know? Working with Reef Check and others, we conduct fish and invertebrate counts, coral monitoring and water quality testing on each of our cleanups. Citizen science that helps significantly!

Who We Are

For the past 38 years, Trilogy has been a leader in sustainability--both above and below water. Their involvement in reef clean-up's and other environmentally responsible practices (pump-out system) fostered an environment for their employees to create Blue'aina--a campaign Trilogy has committed to sponsor every month since its inception in January 2010. The crew at Trilogy--passionate about the ocean--wanted to encourage their community and visiting guests to take on personal responsibility for maintaining the precious reefs that sustain our ocean breaks, snorkeling sites, and thriving eco-system.

Education

Since the goal is to inspire community members to become more involved in various programs island wide, this year we are also inviting a different speaker on each clean-up to talk about their area of expertise. So far we have already slated a speaker from the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary; an expert on monk seals with the state and Eyes of the Reef coordinator who teaches citizens to identify coral disease.

Many of these groups are run by volunteers; our reef cleanups will provide a platform for these specialists to facilitate educational forums on ocean-minded topics and offer ways for citizens to get involved. In other words, the participants who help with the reef clean-up will get to learn about what's happening in and around Maui's precious reefs and the various ways they can get involved more.

Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities

Spread the word and get your company involved in giving back locally! It will not only make a difference individually (better to give than receive) but it has lasting effects environmentally. Oh, and did we mention it's a whole lot of FUN!? Because it is.
